Their approach and sound drastically changed. ![]() I find DSOTM the turning point, where they went from a cohesive band that could literally make ANY song, to a group that realized they could make money. Yes the 4 big commercial ablums have been played to death, and that is a big part of it, but also many simply did not realize the earlier stuff was good, due to many reviewers citing DSOTM and forwards as being the big selling commercial time, and not giving the older stuff a chance. Most very casual floyd fans, only like DSOTM, Wish, Animals, Wall, but the real creative period with very inspired music, that has real emotion and heart, and are 4 guys really just having fun, doing what they want, is all BEFORE DSOTM. But, as a whole it’s awful schmaltzy and a little vapid.30 years ago, I would have totally agreed with you.īut looking back over many years hindsight, the 4 big commercial albums are still good musically, but the importance of the pre-DSOTM stuff, has finally come to the forefront. And, there are sounds that draw pictures. As Impressionism, it’s occasionally effective, but on a very imitative level. It turns out to be an Impressionist orchestral sketch of (I think) a morning that includes some rock elements. The best that can be said for it is that it’s craftsman-like and that in spite of its many parts, it’s an entity. They use orchestral elements and a choir. Their last album, Ummagumma, while a bit drawn-out, had all their best elements.Ītom Heart Mother is a step headlong into the last century and a dissipation of their collective talents, which are considerable. London Following the discovery of the original 16mm film of Atom Heart Mother from the 1971 Hakone Aphrodite shows and subsequent restoration, Pink Floyd will be releasing in Japan (and looking like it's Japan only) an expanded edition of Atom Heart Mother with a bonus Blu-Ray. Pink Floyd used sounds no one else thought of and could make them lyrical besides. Most other groups, when they thought in terms of electronics, thought only of painful feedback. And their music, if it wasn’t memorable, reached into the limits of their experimentation. Their use of a third, rear, sound source anticipated quadraphonics. ![]() Their work in the electronic capabilities of rock was more advanced than most people recognize.
